01 / LIFE BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
Come for the teaching.
Stay curious about everything.
Teaching abroad is about more than the school day. In Taiwan, your new routine might include breakfast from a neighbourhood stall, Mandarin practice on the way home, and a weekend spent following a mountain trail.

Everyday life worth exploring
Night markets, little tea shops and streets lined with temples give you plenty of reasons to take the long way home. Build a life here at your own pace.
Room for a new perspective
Practise Mandarin in real conversations, learn from your students and discover how much a familiar routine can change in a new place.
An island beyond your city
Coastlines, forested hills and lively cities offer very different ways to spend your time off. Choose a school and schedule that leave space for the life you want.

EXPERIENCE YOU CAN TALK TO
20years living in Taiwan
06 / A PERSONAL START
Guidance from
a life lived here.
Teach in Taiwan grew out of Dylan Porter’s own experience of teaching and living on the island. Having taught there for eight years and lived there for twenty, he brings a personal perspective to the questions behind a move abroad.
Our role is to help eligible applicants explore suitable private cram schools and make an informed choice. Tell us what matters to you, from the classroom setting to the life you want outside it.
No recruitment fee for using our matching service.
A conversation is a chance to explore, with no obligation to accept a role.
07 / GOOD QUESTIONS
A few things
you might be wondering.
Still weighing it up? Bring your questions to the first conversation.
Ask us about your situation ↗Which passports and degrees do you accept?
To apply through Teach in Taiwan, you must hold both a passport and a degree from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or Ireland. We cannot accept applications through this service if either your passport or your degree is from a country outside this list. These are our service’s application criteria. They are not a statement of every possible immigration route in Taiwan.
Do you place teachers in public schools?
Our matching service focuses on private cram schools (buxibans). Please apply through us only if you are interested in a private cram school role and meet our passport and degree requirements.
Can I teach in Taiwan without experience?
Yes—no teaching experience is required at all for the private cram school roles we arrange. All training is provided, so you can start from scratch. As long as you meet our passport and degree requirements, we’d love to hear from you.
Do I need a degree or a TEFL certificate?
You need a degree, but no TEFL certificate is required at all for the roles we arrange. All training is provided. To apply through us, both your passport and your degree must be from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or Ireland.
How much can I save teaching in Taiwan?
There is room to save when your take-home pay is comfortably above your spending. Our roles start from NT$600 per teaching hour with 20 hours a week guaranteed. The salary and living cost guides show how to compare your pay with rent, everyday costs and a realistic savings target.
Do I need to speak Mandarin?
No—you don’t need to speak any Mandarin to teach English in the schools we work with. Learning a little will make everyday life easier, from ordering food to getting around, but you can arrive without knowing a word and learn as you go.
When should I apply?
Start a conversation once you have a rough idea of your availability. Timing depends on suitable openings and the paperwork needed for your circumstances. Confirm any proposed start date before booking travel.
Is your service free for teachers?
Yes. Teach in Taiwan’s teacher matching service is free and carries no obligation to accept a role. Personal expenses such as travel, document preparation and relocation are separate; ask what a school’s offer includes.
Can you guarantee a job or visa?
No. A suitable opening depends on your profile, school requirements and availability. Schools make hiring decisions, and the relevant authorities decide applications for permits and immigration status.
